Camera obscura portait

“Home and Away” is a long term photographic project that started in 2021, about a group of young dancers in the Spanish town of Pamplona. They adopt this city as their home for one or two years, while they practice and improve their skills towards a professional life. Dance is regarded as something we do for fun in our free time however, a dancing career is quite different and not generally understood, as most people see it as a hobby. Beginning at a very young age, such profession demands years of hard work, dedication, self-confidence and tremendous endurance. This project wants to show and familiarise you with this resilient group of people that follow what they love most… dancing. The portraits sessions took place in shared apartments around the city, where I transformed their entire living space into a camera obscura, a process that allowed me to imagine and fuse their private living space with the city. The light projected inside the dark rooms is a real image inversion of the exterior. All the photos were taken in almost complete darkness with long exposures between 30 seconds to 1 minute, using only natural light available.
